Anyone try it yet? Whaddya think?

I'm still hunting down my HDHR Prime. I was holding it in my hand on Tuesday, I had an HDHR hooked up already and since we got Tivo we don't need all these tuners so I put it somewhere safe. 2 hours of cleaning later I have no idea where that safe place is, its not in the "correct" place though.

Curious as to how much of my weekend I dedicate to cleaning up the parts room. (yes its a whole damn room in my basement now)

well, if no one replies i'll go start cleaning. That place is a disaster, needs to be done anyhow. I won't be able to get a cablecard until Tuesday though, although it'll probably take much of today/tomorrow just to organize and hopefully find it. Assuming I didn't do anything stupid.

Just bought the very last HDHR-Extend in stock in the entire SF Bay Area, Amazon sold out for 2-4 weeks too. Its the only model with a built-iin transcoder, but its OTA only, whereas the Prime is cablecard only. Setting up PlexDVR now, recording bits via Camtasia for YouTube publishing later if appropriate.

Hopefully i'll find my HDHR-Prime by the time I get this working in which case I'll set that up too. I watch almost only OTA shows except for Mr Robot, but at $3/month for cablecard it wouldn't hurt.

I've been using it. Recorded a couple football games this weekend. It works as you would expect other than some bugs concerning search and tuner conflicts.

It doesn't do time shifting, comm skip or live tv. But if you plan on watching later it's adequate at this point.

Dean, it seems like we are getting to a point where you're bug hunting on the 5.0 release. What are the chances of getting tv support in the Plex repo?

Next is the auto-gen based HTML client. That has to be the first thing, and of course the huge effort to get the new 5.0 documentation done which is going to be brutal.

Anything else non-trivial has to come after those things.

ok, recorded a video of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqkTySJR...e=youtu.be

I like it. Stability and ability to not re-record already existing shows will determine if I can retire SageTV.

Where's you read that? Extend was just upgraded 8 weeks ago with a fanless metal case. Can't recall if I have a new one or old one, I'll have to look at mine tomorrow. Its downstairs via the crawlspace and you've seen me traverse that in daylight so not now at night :-)

This is the device you want, its got the mpeg4 transcoding chip built in. The connect & prime don't have that, if any devices need to be discontinued/upgraded, its those.

Perhaps it's that Micro Warehouse is no longer going to carry as a stock item, their website indicated discontinued. I combined that with the Amazon out of stock to arrive at what may be an incorrect conclusion, looks like they were simply bleeding out the older version in preparation for the new fan free model...

Sounds like a great device.
