just curious who is using the monoprice 5704 and how well does it work for you? how CQC friendly is it?
also, is there any others in the same price ballpark that I should look at?
any cheap others with more inputs?
what about doing an HDMI switch -> 5704, besides being cheesy? (note the things on the switch would be stuff that would not need to be accessed at the same time, so no harm in being switched vs matrix)
NOTE: As one wise professional something once stated, I am ignorant & childish, with a mindset comparable to 9/11 troofers and wackjob conspiracy theorists. so don't take anything I say as advice...

Device is very sensitive, I have 1 fried output probably because I plugged an output device into it. Device spews serial I/O in a constant stream, driver handles OK but sensitive to buffering and thus not very reliable. I gave up on the CQC driver and went with using my Harmony hub to select input and output sources.
I'm going to to a passive 1x4 matrix, 1 input , 4 output and control the actual inputs via my receiver. Our home situation is such that we will have no more than 2 sources going at once so the home theater is the primary viewing area and I can run a secondary source to any of 4 other TVs in the house via the matrix.

I use it and it works, but It gets switched infrequently in my setup, so I'm not sure my situation is the best example.

I wasn't aware of this so I didn't know it needed addressing. We can increase the system level I/O buffer on the serial port to help with this. That might be all it needs. Are you sure that the fried input isn't causing it to spew more than it normally would?

That's a PDL driver, so I updated the PDL engine to set a larger com port read buffer size for all drivers. Of course that's just a hint to the system, and it can ignore it, but generally it gets you a bigger buffer.
And I dropped down the polling interval in the PDL engine to the lowest allowed, which will allow it to see asyncs as quickly as possible. If it still spits too much out to be handled after that, then I'd argue it's a rogue element. Any more than that would likely require some sort of async I/O to deal with, which would require a C++ driver.

so, about a 50/50 consensus...
hmm...
any other cheap options?

Pretty sure it's not caused by the fried port. I'll hook it back up (once the new drop with the upped PDL buffer) is in place and see how it does.

I believe that they have come out with a new iteration of this model, I think I have a v2 and they are now on a v3, might be an improvement, what's currently pictured is not what I have. I've not seen anything less expensive. The only pause I have with anything like this is that I'm hooking thousands of $$$ of AV equipment to a $158.17 switching box.

I personally think it's worth the attempt.
Monoprice is so good about backing their products that, i'd say, for the price, it's worth it to try it and see if it works for you. If it doesn't they will more than likely take it back.
Also, as Batwater pointed out, they may have a newer version that has been improved.

The 4.8.925 beta I put out last night has the PDL driver changes discussed, so give that a try.
