In my defense I had to deal with RFIT stupidity 3x tonight. Oh look, whiskey!

damn, reading is hard.

thats awesome - no need for a roundabout way to handle it so i can keep the rules inside of CQC.

I'm looking at one of these as my next IP camera either in dome or bullet form, 5mp and has 2.8 -12mm varifocus lense.

Only hesitation is the lack of a track record, HIKVision has been around for some time.

I need to buy 1-2 dome cameras, do you know if this can be tracked via BI? I was looking at TrendNet, but those domes are $100ish for the 1MP crappy one, $300 for a nicer one.

actually just noticed this. Eeek:
Quote:2. Your windows computer must have an IP address in the range of 192.168.ZERO.*. Although I have my local network configured to allow access to any IPs in the range of 192.168.*.*, and my DHCP hands out address in the range of 192.168.1.*, this camera refuses to even respond to any computer whose IP is outside the range of 192.168.ZERO.*. I had to manually change the IP address for one of my computers temporarily in order to even connect to the camera.

The only problem I see in his statement is the camera is not picking up DHCP.

The camera obviously has a 192.168.0.x address and SNM of /24 by default, that is why he can't talk to it. Not sure I would take that guys review at face value, since he obviously has a poor understanding of network concepts. Your average person that doesn't understand networks would stick with a 192.168.x /24 network (i.e. 192.168.1.0-254 or 192.168.0.0-254, etc). And if they did decided to expand it to a /16 (192.168.x.x) they should understand subnet masks enough to figure out what is going on. Given he is obviously pushing the limits of his networking knowledge I would question his whole setup.

But also looking at the manual, I don't think a camera that requires you to install an ActiveX component to configure it has a lot of usable life left in it. Unless maybe that's just to view video straight from the camera and the rest is all web pages.

Don't have one personally so can't speak to compatibility yet. It's not listed on the BI camera list page but the generic driver probably will work.

Not a bad thing really. With all the security leaks in all the connected devices, segregation is a good thing.

Get a little Ubiquity router and route between the subnets. Its a fully featured router with five routed ports.

https://www.ubnt.com/edgemax/edgerouter-x/ - $49

I just replaced my random gear with ubiquiti stuff ... love the admin ability, and it works very well. Not plug and play, but rock solid so far. I went with the non-edge stuff so it could (mostly) be admin'd through the web interface

IVB, isn't that what you have? Was going to get that but found a WOOT deal on an Edge Router 8 - Pro so bought that instead.
