Does anyone have any templates setup to drive the sonos. I'd love to see what you have done. I'm having a bit of trouble Smile

I'm working through my sonos templates now. I think I've settled on a summary screen that shows basic info for all four sonos. Then a more detailed screen for each one. I haven't figured out grouping or music selection yet. For now I've added a command button that launched the sonos app.

Hey Ron

I haven't been around for a while because we moved abroad and all my stuff is currently still in storage, but if you do a search for some of my posts, there are a few where I detail how I set up grouping etc. I have pretty much replicated the Sonos app functionality within CQC, so I never had to use the Sonos app at all - I played both radio and albums (5 zones) via my CQC setup.

Though wasn't some of what you did driven by the fact that Sonos broke the built in grouping functionality for a while until we worked around it? If so, he might be able to do the actual grouping functionality a bit easier than you did, though the overall strategy may still apply.

Yes, I was annoyed when they broke it but then found it was better because with the new way I had to code it, I didn't have to worry about who the master speaker was anymore.

But I've been out of the loop for so long, I don't know what fix was implemented. Is Sonos more stable now, or are they still breaking things with every update they do?

No, everything has been fine. Ultimately, the issue wasn't the Sonos really. It was an issue in the UPnP implementation in Windows. By us taking over part of the UPnP process ourself, we were able to get around those issues and haven't had any more since, with Sonos or any other UPnP devices.

That's great! I'm in a rental at the moment, waiting for renovations on our apartment to be finished, and I'm really suffering without all my HA toys. I mean, imagine, I actually have to manually open and close the blinds every day, what a bore-chore!!

I managed to get my Sonos playbar from storage, but the other units are too far beneath everything else, so I have this horrible non-synced music (sonos in the lounge, ordinary radio in the bedroom). Oh, how it hurts not having my CQC-Sonos setup... ;-)

I'm just afraid that when I dust it all off, I'll be so far behind that I won't know what's going on anymore. Really looking forward to hooking up Alexa and Sonos...

I think you should sell everything you have now, listen to whatever jkmonroe says, buy whatever he has, and replicate his setup.

He needs another target, he's been jedi mind-tricking me into buying stuff for far too long. Its time for someone else to be his puppet.
