BIG Hue changes - no more 3rd party support and API changes
#1
So as of the latest Hue update, they have removed compatibility for third party bulbs like GE, Cree, TCP, OSRAM. It is now a 'walled garden'.

With this comes some changes to the API as well.

Dean, I haven't updated yet, but it is pending on my bridge. I know you are knee deep in 5.0 work, but can you take a glance through the API documentation and see if anything has changed?

This is shitty.

the good news looks like there is an easy way to get scenes from the bridge. that could be really cool!

geez, thats a way to seize defeat from the jaws of victory. They don't have remotely the brand recognition nor market share to achieve this.

Mark S, I still have that damn box of hue in my house, sorry, i'll ship it off as the holidays should have down time.

I might not notice by eye a breaking change. I would hope they didn't make gross level changes to the API, since that would break everything out there. Has anyone tried the driver against the new firmware yet?

IVB,

That's OK, I still have an unopened hub on my office floor; Planning same holiday downtime to implement them...

I have new 2.0 kit sitting under the Christmas tree and I'll upgrade Christmas day but only if Dean promises to at least try to fix things if they break...

If it's just small breakages of course I can fix them pretty quickly. If they changed the entire protocol, that's going to take longer.

From a quick check by eye, it appears to be basically the same, but that's to be expected. I didn't think even they would do anything that silly.
