Nest Driver???
#1
I took an indirect lightning hit yesterday, made it 7 years since the last one, and have random dead HA stuff.

My Aprilair T-Stat is fried, 2nd time, done with it I think, am looking for thermostat options, Nest is one of them but I can't find any trace of a driver, is there one still out there and does it still working? Would be getting a gen 3 Nest if I get one.

Thanks,
-Ben

I'm using the driver just fine, it should be on the forums somewhere. Also, I believe the thread protocol should be out next year so you can talk directly to the device rather than the cloud.

I went looking for it and did not find, seems to me Jkish was only PMing it to people.

you know, if i wasn't so vested into Nest right now, I would probably get the Ecobee3 with remote sensors.

there is driver for ecobee floating around, too, but ive never tried it.

I committed on a forum post of an individual who was attempting to use the Ecobee driver with the Ecobee 3 ... (s)he stated it did not work. Sad So I think the best bet @ the moment - stick to the Nest.

I have the Ecobee. The driver was not reliable and didn't provide access to the auxiliary sensors. I'd love to see a V2 full-on driver for it but not sure if there are enough folks/interest to pony up for having one built. I really like the Ecobee overall though and especially compared to the Nest, so much that I've given up integrating thermostat in to my CQC system for now.

Is the Ecobee a local connection, or is it also cloud based like the Nest? From what I saw, I don't think that the driver would ever actually even talk directly to the Nest thermo, all communications would go to the cloud based service.
