Need help to get a working system on CQC

Dean Roddey Wrote:How is the metadata stored? Is it embedded in the files, or does KODI keep it somewhere in a database of its own?

There are a couple of options for metadata. I rip each movie to a separate directory. I then use Tiny Media Manager to scrape metadata. It creates a JPG for the movie, the fanart, and a poster. Metadata goes into a small xml file called movie.nfo. Kodi looks in the movie directory if there is no metadata for a given title. I use a MySql repository for metadata so all instances of Kodi share the single library rather than having local instances of a .DB file. An example NFO file is below.

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>

    <plot>At Princeton University, John Nash struggles to make a worthwhile contribution to serve as his legacy to the world of mathematics. He finally makes a revolutionary breakthrough that will eventually earn him the Nobel Prize. After graduate school he turns to teaching, becoming romantically involved with his student Alicia. Meanwhile the government asks his help with breaking Soviet codes, which soon gets him involved in a terrifying conspiracy plot. Nash grows more and more paranoid until a discovery that turns his entire world upside down. Now it is only with Alicia's help that he will be able to recover his mental strength and regain his status as the great mathematician we know him as today.</plot>

I decided to look into this one after i started to have problems with my NUCs after 2 years of use. This is actually doing a better job than my i3NUCs are.

I just installed v4.8, and decided to try the auto config... I have drivers for My Movies, and JRiver installed. What do I select for the renderer?

It has to be a V2 renderer driver. You can get a list of them in the drivers documentation. Select Media Renderers and the available ones will show up on the right.

For music, you can probably use our own headless renderer, just feeding the sound card's digital output to your A/V processor. For movies, it sort of depends on your setup there, but it's sort of Dune or Plex if you want a hardware player. Plex could be a Roku3 or the Plex HT app running on the computer. Of the two, the latter is the better choice if it's reasonable for you to do. But, if you use a Plex client, you have to use the Plex back end, that's the gotcha. Plex clients only know how to stream from Plex Media Server.

If you don't want to use a Plex back end, then the Dune is sort of the only hardware choice right now. Things are sort of light on controllable hardware players with good enough control to be V2 enabled. If you can find one that can be controlled well enough to support V2 media renderer functionality, we can talk about getting a driver done for it. Unfortunately your Oppo isn't among them.

Is XBMC not an option anymore...I didn't see the driver on the list. I have a XBMC Media server already, and don't play anything from the CQC machine.

I think there's a third party driver for it here on the forum, but it's not V2 compliant, and I'm not sure if it could be made so. Someone else who uses it could maybe provide some guidance, but as I remember it the control interface was pretty sad.

Is it a player anyway, or is it just a media server? You need a media player.

I just need something that can send the commands to my Kodi server. That is what makes my whole setup work... Maybe i should not even use CQC for any media at all and just switch my AVP to the Kodi Server and use a Kodi App on my Samsung Tablet (which is what I am currently doing since i don't have CQC setup yet.

The auto-gen stuff can only work in terms of V2 enabled drivers, since it has to know what the driver interface is.
