Touch screens
#1
What are folks using for in-wall touch screens now-a-days? I have an old Elo 14" that doesn't support multitouch or gestures, so I'm looking for a replacement. I'm not into RIVA, so a iOS or Android tablet won't work for me. Just looking for some ideas.

Thanks,

There are various companies that sell more industrialish in wall Windows boxes. Of course another option is just mount a touch monitor and keep the actual PC elsewhere, either behind the wall or more elsewhere via a KVM extender type thing.

How about a Microsoft surface. Vidabox just came out with a wall mount/charging solution.

Yea, looking for something that can be driven from a computer remotely. I have 110v power and VGA to the location right now.

In that case, just get a standard VESA wall amount adaptor (assuming such things exist) and buy a Dell or HP or some such touch screen monitor and mount it, driving it from the remote computer. You can have plenty of screen real estate for not a lot of money.

Something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2240T-21-5-I...ch+monitor

It's like $250'ish but you get a full 21" wide screen multi-touch monitor.

CarNetix do open framed touch screens. Have not used them, but found them when looking for a screen for the car.

They do 15" type sizes in both 4:3 and widescreen.

So the CarNetix thing looks like what I'm looking for, an open face touch monitor, but when I go to click on the 7-15" products, I get an error. So I don't know if they are discontinued or the website is just having problems.

Dean - I like how cheap and big the Dell, and similar monitors are, but I would like to install the monitor flush with the wall. Right now I have a custom frame that goes around the Elo, and it looks pretty good. I'm not sure how I would flush mount one of the Dell monitors.

I guess you'd have to recess the VESA mount so that the front of the monitor is flush and do another custom frame.
