I don't think I want to use an extender. It halves the bandwidth, as I understand it (from my reading today.) I think that just getting a centrally located WAP will be a better deal for me.

If you dont mind managing the Access point from a computer, you can look into the Ubiquiti Pro (

I use this at home in a central spot and get Wifi coverage throughout the house, outside etc.

I have been using a Dlink DAP-1522 Wireless Access Point for about 5 years now with no problems. I put it up in my attic to get access to most of my house, but had trouble with where my office was, so I set up another one there. It has a switch on the back to turn it into a bridge if you would rather have wired connectivity in the room.

There are also some hacking possibilities, change out your antennas or DIY a reflector...
