I have used a Digi Edgeport 416 in my system for years without any issues. However I've also used them in my parents system and for the second time the box got fried during a loss of electrical power. Since I have to replace it, I'm just curious to know what other people are using.
I need something with 16 serial inputs.

Other systems used:
SageTV w/ cablecard tuner & multiple extenders for viewing
BlueIris and IP cameras for CCTV
Incredible PBX for home phone

I've always used Moxa serial servers. I'm currently using a Moxa 5610-16, which is an Ethernet to serial server, so doesn't offer any USB, but if it's only the 16 serial ports you need, it's an alternative.

Digi Etherlite 16. I have fried two of them due to what I believe is lightning strikes. After it first happened, I bought a couple of extra on e-bay for next to nothing and configured them identical in case it happens again.
I think my problem is related to the serial control of the pool system - since the wire that controls the Jandy Aqualink goes outside, I think it is susceptible to lightning strikes nearby.

Go wifi for the ourdoor controls - use a GlobalCache iTach wiFi serial unit.
