For whatever reason, this problem popped into my head last night as I was going to sleep. I guess one way to 'deal' with the problem would be just punt, i.e. never destroy the stupid things. The IV could just maintain a cache of them and reuse them. Then they'd never go away.
But that would be a big change, too big probably to do except in the context of the next release. And it could have unforeseen consequences, I dunno. I'd have to keep around real windows, just hidden away, and who knows if they might not try to do a popup or something. And of course they might show the old content when initially re-displayed, until the new stuff got loaded.
