CQC on Fanless Intel NUC DE3815TYKHE
#1
Hi guys,

I'm looking at finally getting my CQC put in-situ. I was looking at the Intel NUC DE3815TYKHE (http://www.intel.ie/content/www/ie/en/nu...tykhe.html. It uses a Intel Atom E3815 SoC.

I had been looking for a while for a relatively low cost fanless (appliance like) solution to run CQC on Windows 7. I would have to purchase a hd and some ram for this unit also.

I know there are other intel NUCs in the same price range that feature better processors (celeron/i3 etc). However, I'm seriously considering using this unit for CQC as it's fanless, low running cost and also has a legacy vga port which I need for my in-wall touchscreen.

I'm just throwing this out here to see what you guys might think of this. Would this unit have sufficient grunt to operate CQC in Win 7 x64? I plan on using logic server and having 1 RIVA client attached in addition to the usual CQC master services.

I could give it a shot and if all fails I'll use it for XBMC which I've read is running ok on it. However, the need is for a quiet, cheap runner CQC machine. Would appreciate any opinions. Who knows maybe someone here has one of those already.

Thanks

Jim

I use a i3NUC for my windows PC running CQC, and a Celeron NUC for OpenElec/XBMC. I think if the Atom has enough CPU power for Win 7 it will be fine.

Ron,

Thanks very much for your feedback. Thats the only thing with dealing with the relatively new (just released) hardware of the fanless nuc...not much in the line of reviews to be got.

In the end I've changed my mind and am now going with a d2500 atom based intel D2500HN motherboard in a fanless rack mountable case (20W idle seemingly incl. ssd) as the case suited me better and I could get some rough idea of how the unit would run under Windows 7, which appears to be sufficient.

So I'll bite the bullet on this unit in the next few days, so long as no one here throws up any better possiblities ;-)

thanks

Jim

My CQC server is now this Celeron NUC. Working great so far with Win8, 4GB, and a leftover 64GB SSD.

My CQC runs on a DN2800MT with 4GB. It is fanless and powered from a12V brick.
It uses 10/11 watts at idle. No media repo though except dummy one for squeezeserver driver. All media served from nas.
