4.5.20 observation
#1
so my setup for this particular observation is this:
  • CQC-MS -> Master Server running XP, not really important at this point in time, only listed because CQC needs a master server...
  • CQC-MMS -> ex Master Server + Media Server, now just a Media Server, running Win7
  • BOB -> desktop running Win7, not sure why I named my desktop BOB, but it seemed like as good a name as any...

Both CQC-MS and CQC-MMS are set up as CQC servers/can run drivers etc...
my desktop is just a convenient location to work from... far away from the spiders in the crawl space where the servers are... I think the spiders like the heat generated by the servers... they seem to congregate around that area..

so I load up the Admin Interface on my desktop, select the Admin Server Drivers, and select CQC-MMS as the server to admin/host...

I add a bunch of V2 Sim type drivers, and a V2MyMovies driver...
the MyMovies driver isn't connecting... I figure out that I set up the OBDC on my desktop instead of on CQC-MMS, oops, obviously that wont really work very well... RDP to CQC-MMS to set up the OBDC stuff there, and notice that there is an OBDC source already set up there... I did have a v1 MyMovies driver loaded at one point in time...

so 1st observation is that when installing MyMovies Driver on CQC-MMS it only looks for OBDC drivers on my desktop... (ie where the AI was launched, not at the 'CQC host' or whatever you call it...)just fwiw, it would be nice if it looked at the host...

2nd observation, I started up the AI directly on CQC-MMS, and it claimed there where no drivers loaded... none, not even the pre-existing ones...
restarted the CQC service on CQC-MMS and all the old drivers where back/happy, but none of the new ones I added (from BOB) showed up... where did they go?
NOTE: As one wise professional something once stated, I am ignorant & childish, with a mindset comparable to 9/11 troofers and wackjob conspiracy theorists. so don't take anything I say as advice...

Are you sure you have one network? I.e. you sure MMS isn't still a master server? When you bring up the host admin dialog from Bob, do you see both of the other servers as options to select?

positive, well, mostly positive... went from being WHS -> WIN7 at about the same time I moved the master server off... just kept the name since I am not particularly good at coming up with PC names... and it seemed good enough...

both CQC-MS & CQC-MMS show up as hosts...

There almost has to be some sort of comm issue of some sort then, if the drivers aren't showing up. There's nothing unusual showing up in the logs or anything? Or maybe you have managed to get a driver on both machines using the same moniker or something like that? If yo go run the AI on the other machine do you see its drivers but not the ones on the MS?

the after restarting the CQC-MMS service, I can see the original drivers just fine, the new ones are gone...
I reinstalled the new ones from from the AI on CQC_MMS, and now everything seems fine...
fwiw, the whole point to all this in the first place was to check out the auto-gen... that works pretty awesome BTW... you just need to V2 more drivers :-)
I didn't check the logs at the time when this happened, and I have been doing a bunch of playing with the autogen stuff since... so My guess is that if there was anything interesting in the logs, it is long gone now...

just seems that in order to actually install a driver I need to actually do it from the AI on that machine, but checking drivers/playing with fields/etc I can do from any machine...

You absolutely should be able to install, manage, and uninstall drivers on any CQC enabled machine from any CQC enabled machine.

Do you have the two servers on a static IP address? If not, you should. If the DHCP lease changes, there can be a substantial lag before all the machines figure that out. Or if your router allows you to set up fixed address DHCP leases you can do it that way.

Both cqc servers are static, desktop is dhcp...

Without some loggage, it's hard to say. Keep an eye on it. If such a thing happens again, grab some log output and post it for me to take a look at.

well, I tried again today, loaded up the same drivers:
V2 light sim
V2 Sonos
V2 MyMovies

the Sim and Sonos worked perfectly, no issues...
MyMovies mostly worked... but it looked for the OBDC source on Bob instead of on CQC-MMS where the driver and MyMovies is located, it also looked for the picture folder on BOB...

OK, that's another thing though from drivers not showing up. That's not a bug per se, in that it's known that this is just a shortcoming with ODBC based drivers (of which MM is almost the only one, I guess the data logger is a second.) Over time we've remoted almost all driver connection info type stuff but that one hasn't been done yet.

Drivers not showing up, OTOH, would never be expected to happen.
