I'm looking at buying a few of the 7" or 8" Windows 8 tablets that are being released. For under $200 these look to be ideal for wall mount or tabletop use. What I can't figure out is how to control the screen and brightness based on time or events. Here is what I would like to do
- At night or when the system is armed change Windows power options to turn off the display after 1 minute
- During the day or when I am home have the display on and if possible dim when not in use
- If an alarm occurs or trigger (entry zone tripped, doorbell, etc) turn the display on and show a popup or screen in CQC

The ingredients are there, I think.
The IV has a built in screen blanker. You can enable it and/or set the timeout any time you want.
You can react to event triggers in the IV, which can update those settings.
So, set up the base template to react to changes in arming or alarm state, and adjust the blanker settings, and power the screen on if applicable.

I haven't had a chance to test the blanker, but from a quick search it looks to only blank the screen not turn it off. Would it be possible to add an option to change SC_MONITORPOWER for all monitors. This puts the monitor in low power mode effectively turning off the screen. I would prefer to have the backlight off completely at night unless an event occurred.

It does actually turn it off, if you set it to that mode.

I'm assuming he means Surface Pro, which runs Windows.

I'm looking at the upcoming HP Stream 7 or 8. The Stream 7 has an Intel Atom processor, 1GB ram, and a 1280x800 resolution screen. While the specs are low it should work fine for a viewer.

Ooh, when I saw less than $200 I figured it must be the same as the one we have which needs apps (afaik).
