Cover Art Browser - No Images
#1
Dean,

Last week i was noticing that some of the cover art for my movies wasnt downloading. I typically would deal with this by deleting an incomplete image from the cache and letting it reload, but wasn't working. I decided to deleted the entire cache, and now no images are downloading.

Now that I think about it, it's likely to do with the new My Movies 5.0 that I installed a could of weeks ago.

What can do to start a trouble shooting process? Where do I look?

I use the riva app for the iphone, but i tested it on the interface viewer and it's getting the same result.

I guess we should not ignore your first point. What do you mean that some images weren't downloading and that you were deleting them from the cache? That's not something to ignore and you should have made it clear that you were still doing this. It shouldn't be necessary.

I assume you mean that changes to images you made were not being brought down and overwriting the previously downloaded image? The MM driver wouldn't know that you changed an image unless you force a repo reload on the MM repo driver. MM doesn't inform it of image changes, so it would only know to look when you do a reload.

If you were doing a reload and it wasn't picking up changes, then that's something that needs to be looked at. If you were assuming that it would automatically see changes and weren't doing a reload, then the driver was probably ok and I should make sure that issue is indicated in the driver docs.

On the other thing, I think some other folks did set upgrade recently and didn't have any issues.

What version of CQC are you on right now? Is it the latest beta?

Are you sure that the client service is running ok on the machine where you are browsing the media? If you stop it, delete the MM cache, and start it up again, what does it download to the MM cache directory?

Dean,

After a bit more digging, I see this is the the "traditional" ODBC configuration "issue."

I uninstalled the my movies driver(V1) and installed the new one (V2), but its not connecting. So my problem was likely a failed connection to the SQL server after the upgrade to MM 5.0 which also installed SQL server 2008 RC2 vs the earlier SQL Server 2005.

Its been a while since i set this up, and it's not working right now. The driver isnt connecting. I have a few authentication issues that i have to deal with because I use a windows 2003 domain for authentication.

Id be happy to get some "refresher" tips from you, if you dont mind, but let me get this worked out before we address any of the other problems that i put in the original post.

Yeh, it may be hosted now in a different SQL server instance, which would cause it to not to find it using the existing data source setup.

I am seeing two instances in the ODCB config dialog. Any idea of how to resolve that?

Also. the new My Movies 5.0 is not free. It looks like it requires some payment for different levels of access. Can you see a situation where the free version would cause lack of connectivity that im facing right now?

You mean when you are configuring the actual ODCB source itself? I would assume maybe one is the old one and one is the new one? You should probably just delete them both and build a new one. Keep in mind one might have been 32 bit and the other 64 bit so you'd have to use the appropriate ODBC tool to get to them. See the My Movies driver document for how to invoke the two different ones.

Since we access the database directly, there's no way it can limit that, however if it doesn't put all the of the information into the database that could cause an issue, however it would be able to connect to the database and would log errors about something being wrong in the actual data. It wouldn't be complaining about not being able to connect to the database itself.

Ok Dean,

I figured out how to get the driver to connect again. The remaining issue is that the images are still not downloading. Ill keep playing with it, since im making progress here.

In the cache directory do you only see the metadata file and no images? If so, are you sure that you pointed the driver at the right cover art directory? I guess it's possible that he changed it for 5.0. Make sure that the directory you pointed the driver at actually has the cover art in it.

Dean,

I was looking the standard cover art folder and it doesnt appear to have any data. Could that be the problem? Could the new version be storing the cover art in a different location?

EDIT:

I just read your above message. I think we are on the same page now.

Any suggestions on how to determine where the new program might be storing the cover art?

Yeh, I just beat you to posting about that as the likely problem, see my previous post above. You may have to poke around and see if you can find out where it's putting the cover art now.

I wonder if it's in the database now or something?

A quick net search didn't turn anything up.
