I think the correct answer is in the amplifier, but just to make sure...
I now have a Nuvo Concerto playing music through a file_tag repo. Volume can be set in both places. My guess is that file tag should be set high and nuvo should be used to set listening volume.

It wouldn't be the repo but the renderer driver you mean. You could do it either way presumably. But probably setting it at the amp would be more efficient, since then you aren't running the amps any harder than you have to. So just set the renderer at 100% and adjust at the amp.

When you say set the renderer at 100%, do you do this when you configure the audio driver (mine is the CQSL audio player v2) and when you enter a value for the inital load value? Then I guess you have to enter the value of 100.

Yeh, if you just want to peg the renderer at unity gain and not have to ever set it, then set it in the driver install prompt to 100%.
