Google Music All Play Logitech Media Server Plugin

I just got Google Music All Play (and the music I uploaded to Google Play) working via a plugin on my Logitech Media Server (LMS) that I have running on a Raspberry Pi. The info for how to install can be found here.

This is a Linux only solution, it is not available for Windows based LMS. It took about an 90 minutes to install, most of that was waiting on the Pi to install stuff.

Very cool, I can stream different music to different rooms via the same plugin.

Other than the listed installation instructions the one change is that you do have to install a dev branch version of the plugin, info found here.

I abandon the use of the PI for the LMS server, proved to be too slow thus causing connectivity issues with CQC as well as slow performance in the LMS web interface. Now running on Ubuntu in a Hyper-V VM. Performance is near instantaneous. Running LMS v7.8.1

Glad I am not the only one who is sick of the Pi performance with LMS.

I use squeezeplug for my Pi and I see that there is now support for the odroid range of boards (U3 specifically) which appear to be a lot more powerful than the Pi but similarly priced (and there are more expensive options as well).

I am also thinking of running LMS on the NAS and just letting the Pi be a player.

No hijack... I'm still using the PI as a player, just not the LMS. Running LMS on Ubuntu in a VM response is nearly instantaneous. It was an experiment that I let run too long, just took more overhead than the PI could handle. Google Play works well goal achieved. I was going to just run LMS on Windows but the Google Play solution only runs on the linux flavor which is why I went down the PI path to begin with.

What, if any, type of interface are you using to control this with CQC? I'm finding that more and more of our family's music is found in Google Music only. Trying to keep up with downloading new songs to the CQC media repository is a real PITA. So there is a ton of music that we simply don't have access to right now because it is on Google.

Currently we simply use a old phone and a bluetooth receiver that is hooked into the whole house audio system. It works, but you can only have media controls and meta data on the phone, not the CQC system. I'd love to have a working Google Music solution that actually interfaced into the CQC system.

I'm in the process of setting up a ESXi virtual server, so adding another virtual machine running just about anything won't be a problem if this can in fact be a viable solution......

Hi Brian,

Currently I'm only controlling power on / off (of both the squeeze player and the amp it is feeding) & displaying what is paying for each rooms audio via CQC. So when a room is powered on, whatever last was playing starts back up again. We use a web browser or Orange Squeeze (great app by the way) on our android devices to interact with the media server directly to choose what we listen to. With Orange Squeeze essentially everyone has their own remote control.

I have SqueezeLite running on multiple PCs as well as several Raspberry PI (external usb audio card though, internal audio on PI is awful) with each instance feeding an AV receiver or amp feeding each area of our house. I also use SqueezePlayer on an old android phone as a portable Squeeze Boom Box.

So in your scenario you could potentially feed an audio source from a PC running SqueezeLite (I run it as a service) as an input source to your whole house audio and control Google Play that way.

I'm using the Squeezebox server driver v3.82 from here to control each squeeze player. One driver per squeeze player. In theory you should be able to control Google Play through the interface, it manifests through the server interface so should be fully available via the driver. It is on my todo list, top of my wife's request list, she only wants to go to one place to make music happen :-) so I will be digging into making this work in CQC and will have one stop screen as well as voice control of the whole house audio.

I had a copy of jkish's templates from here that I had loaded up some time ago (before adding Google Play) to play with. Just ran them through the IV and I can confirm that you can control Google Music / All Play via CQC. :-)
