That is what I figured would have to happen, and probably adds interface load overhead and interface transition impact. I'm designing for iPad, so will simplify by removing overlays that require that sort of interaction.

BTW, another way to get info passed, in the case of a popup, is to pass the values in as popup parameters. This is often more convenient since there are no global variables to deal with, so you don't end up with 'variable space polution' or have to deal with cleaning up globals that are used just to pass in stuff to popups.

For overlays, you pretty much have to use global variables if you want to set something and then load an overlay and have it see the values.
