IP Based HDMI Matrix, IP Control

Does this guy support two way communications? That would be pretty important if it was going to be a shipped driver.

2 way as in getting a response from the matrix or as in getting the current input/output mapping? The latter sadly not. There is a web interface that maybe you could use for that but man it would be a complex driver. Mainly written in java I think

If it's a web interface, then it's most likely just HTTP returning JSON or XML or something, so that would be doable.

For the response to a input switch or polling the device for the current input/output map.

What does the response look like?

{"Result":true}

No really...That's it.

Drill down a bit more into the HTML of that page and you get.
<html>
<head>
<link title="Wrap Long Lines" href="resource://gre-resources/plaintext.css" type="text/css" rel="alternate stylesheet">
</head>
<body>
<pre>{"Result":true}</pre>
</body>
</html>
The strange thing is that it displays the response fine with firefox, IE wants you to "open or save as" the return value. It's just a file called the output name (3 for example) with no file type, Nothing! Windows just calls it "file" but you can open it with notepad.

That's not really a response. It's a web page, which isn't very useful. You could try to parse it but it could change in any subsequent update of the firmware, so not really worth it.

But that's a response to a command I'm guessing. Does the protocol not define any sort of query?

Not that i know of. The driver is not really connecting to the device as such is it, Just sending out HTTP GET mesages so there is no connection to get any information back.

A query would work the same way. You'd just do a GET of some sort to get status info. That's they any HTTP based device would work. There would just be some different URL to indicate you want to get something instead of set something. Actually a set type operation really should use a POST or PUT but some devices use GET for setting things as well.
