Lowes Iris and ZWave?

So it has come to my attention that the Lowe's Iris system uses ZWave, and the components should be compatible with any ZWave install.

Does anyone have any idea if this is accurate?

The Iris components are (seriously) about 40%-50% cheaper than buying from Amazon or Smarthome. Specifically the contact closures; I just paid around $40 per closure (x12) and see that I can get them at Lowe's for $19.99. That's pretty serious.

Crap. Looks like the sensors and closures are Zigbee. And not the HA stack Zigbee, some proprietary nonsense.

Which sucks, because they are stupidly cheap and about 1/4 the size of the ZWave stuff.

The light related stuff is all zwave, though. So the switches, outlets, and plug in modules should work, with a pretty serious cost savings.

That's probably the only reason they are cheaper, since using them requires that you use their system, which can probably collection data about you that they can sell.

Yeah. And to lock you into the $9.99 monthly fee.

I guess I will have to live with these monster sensors. Although there is a ZWave 'hidden' sensor that drills into your door jamb and runs on batteries, but not for me since I am a renter again.
