Scheduled end of support for XP/Vista

Mid-year 2014, Microsoft will formally end support for XP. Other products are or will be starting to schedule end of support for XP, and we are doing the same. Of course we don't want to yank the rug out from under anyone, but we need to do this before too much longer because it's now ancient by operating system standards, and supporting it is already beginning to limit some of what we can do, and we need to stay competitive.

Given that Vista was never much loved by most folks, we will include Vista in this process as well, and make Windows 7 and up (and equivalent server side versions) our new base line.

Since formal Microsoft support will end mid-year, we will begin to drop support for these platforms some time in the last quarter of 2014. Whatever release comes out in or after the beginning of the last quarter of 2014 will move to Windows 7 as a baseline, and of course the betas for that release will be where these changes start.

We apologize for any inconvenience, but we believe that this needs to be done, and that plenty of pre-warning is being given to allow everyone to adjust as necessary (this was originally posted in August 2013.)

As per the above announcement, the 4.7 version, and the betas leading up to it, will make Windows 7 the baseline supported OS version. 4.6 will be the last version supported on XP/Vista. Most likely the installer for the betas and forward will not run on XP/Vista.
