HP L2105tm Optical Touch Monitor
#1
I've been chasing in circles with HP's tech support for the last year with this beast. Different cables, different PC's, they even replaced the monitor once. The end conclusion was always an incompatible motherboard chipset. Well the MB died so the thing has a new board with a Z68 chipset and still works the same way. The touch works for a random amount of time after boot up and then stops. To get it to start working again all it takes is unplugging and replugging the USB cable. It then works for a random period of time and stops again. I'm wondering if HP thinks I'm not smart enough to properly hooking it up but with Win 7 it's a matter of connecting the USB cable, the DVI cable and plugging it in.

In trying on another PC, Z77 chipset, it was pretty much the same random nature but cloning the monitors made it work for a day. About as long as I could have the world torn up. That made HP conclude that it was my problem. Now the warranty has gone and I'm still in the same boat. And yes I've tried cloned monitors, single monitor, extended desktop etc on the primary PC it's hooked to. The CQC MS.

Before going out and buying something else I thought I'd toss it out to the folks here to see if they had any ideas. And yes, I've disabled the allow the system to suspend USB devices in power management already. And no, I haven't cleaned it. The system is also set to not power down either monitor or PC. Win 7 makes CQC unhappy if allowed to override and put the PC to sleep.

To be fair to HP I have to say it's an excellent touchscreen when it works. No pressure required to activate, and works with literally anything, fingertip, plastic stick, whatever. No special requirements like a capacitive screen. And they're much cheaper than the other options like surface acoustic wave. It's also very accurate and does not need calibration when using DVI.

Ideas?
