Native Android app (auto-gen based)
#1
So, just to start some discussion on the Android app I'm working on... It is not based templates, but a fixed interface based on the same room config info that drives the auto-generation system. The idea is very simple, almost no configuration. Basically the same look as the auto-generated templates.

Here is the latest source code zip. See posts on this date in this thread for the details... But basically this one how has lights, weather, and has music and movies implemented form browsing to preview and media playback startup. No Now/Playing slash transport control screen yet. No security yet.

And the .APK file to load into your device. It's not a file type known to the server, so right click and do download as.

NOTE: This guy depends on additions to the XML GW information that have been added as of 4.3.924! So you need to be at that version or later to use it, and it only works with the new V2 driver architecture versions of media media renderer drivers (the only type really updated so far.)

This version now supports the global actions that you can define in the auto-generation stuff as of 4.3.911, so these can be used to insert custom logic into the app indirectly.

I'm going to add a 'remember password' option on the login screen, so it can remember everything but the password if you want, for security purposes.

The cursor isn't supposed to be there on the load name. I need to get rid of that.

Oh, and the connection status is a button that also takes you back to the login screen where you can log out or select another room.

Is this app going to be included in the build or is it going to cost more $$$?

I dunno. We've not discussed it. Most likely it'll just be available to CQC customers.

I got the sliders hooked up for the dimmer loads today, and did a lot more refinement of the grunt work management of room config and fields and such. I'm going to try to get this one screen pretty refined before I move forward, to try to avoid going back through multiple activities as I figure out better ways to do things. And I'm going to be looking for more I can move into the base activity class to share between them.

And I worked on customizing the sliders and got that working, but now need to do some custom images for that.

Might be a good idea to offer it as an add on for $$$. An additional revenue stream would not be a bad thing and if well designed, would be worth the $20 or so.

I'm not sure that even keeping up with who has purchased it, and coming up with some sort of licensing scheme, would be worth $20 a pop. If it sells more CQC systems, then it's worth just making it available. If it doesn't then charging $20 for it won't have made any real difference.

Is there anything planned for this app that the existing android client cannot do? I guess that means web widgets, etc?
Brian - a long time user that rarely messes with the system now
Other systems used:
SageTV w/ cablecard tuner & multiple extenders for viewing
BlueIris and IP cameras for CCTV
Incredible PBX for home phone

I think you are missing the boat with not charging for the application.
