The Zigbee system allows for 'profiles' which defines the format of messages within a particular area of functionality. There's one for home automation but most of the automation vendors are not using it becasue they want that Zigbee functionality to be a proprietary advantage for themselves.
Hmm, maybe Control4, but in the last few years there have been many devices made that support the Zigbee Home Automation profile. I control my pool, several lights, thermostat and three Zigbee locks, all controlled by the Home Automation Standard. HAI supports lights and locks so controlling them is easy, but the problem comes because CQC can't access HAI's Access Control devices, so I have to use a round-about method with flags to control the locks. HAI can control Zigbee lights and my pool pumps, and the panel can display how much power each is using, but CQC can't read the value from the panel.
The new Philips Hue bulbs at Apple Stores uses the Zigbee Light Link standard. (Different then the Home Automation profile.)

What did you end up with for locks?
I'm thinking about trying the Morning Industry dead bolt and wiring the RF remote to a relay board.
Another idea is Zwave, but I don't know much about it. Not even sure what hardware is needed to hook it to CQC.
Final idea is the Insteon integration to Morning Industry, and the PLM is $80, plus the Lock adapter $50.

The deal with Z-Wave is that, if you are going to use, you really need to adopt it in general. It's a mesh network, so you can't generally just throw in a couple modules around the periphery of the house, which is where they'd likely be if locks. You need a certain density of modules to maintain a viable network. And they need to be of a sort that can forward these new lock commands as well, not cheapo old ones.

I haven't done anything about door locks yet, still looking into options, but I've been so wrung out from work lately (lots of changes in management, so lots of jumping through hoops for their politics) that I haven't done much more than come home and fall into bed lately!
