Google has just set a formal date for the end of XMPP service. This means that devices like the Obi will no longer be able to use the Google Voice service to make or receive calls as of May 15, 2014.
Please read this
notice from Obihia for more information.
Long story short, the Obi devices will still work, but you will need to find another VOIP provider other than Google Voice by May 15, 2014.

So the first paragraph says it all will stop working, but the second paragraph is confusing. Is it implying the Obi will work with Google Voice is some fashion in the future?!?!
I just got an android phone where I can finally use Google Voice for everything and then they pull this stunt!

I think what they are trying to say is that Google Voice will continue to work until the May 15th deadline. So you have about 6 months to look at and figure out another service provider that you want to use.
We'll probably just use Callcentric for our service. I already use it for my E911 service at home. We are also trying it out at work and it seems to work just fine.
They have a pay by the min plan which is probably what we will go with because we don't really talk on the phone that much. They have a free incoming call plan for $5.95 a month which isn't a lot and really nice for those people that have at least 250 min of incoming calling per month. We do not, which is why we'll go with the pay per min.
Same idea on the outgoing calls. Some good plans if you call a lot on the phone, or pay per minute if you don't call a lot.
