"Intro to CQC" webex redux this Sunday, 11/26, 8:30am PST
#1
Just arranged to have a "Setup Home Automation webex" redux this weekend, 8:30am Sunday for some fence-sitters over on avs. Giving them an oppty to learn more about CQC to see if it's right for them or not before the price increase.

if you're interested in attending, PM me i'll send you the login details. The regulars will probably be bored beyond belief, but if you want to come, that's cool too.

Here's the sample agenda I put forth. Please reply over there if you have opinions about it, so I can keep all feedback in a single location.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
While we're waiting to see if others respond (ie miltimj indicated interest in another thread), you guys should think about what you want to see. Sample topics could be a subset of the following (too much for a single session, you wouldn't absorb it):

BTW, Dean has a set of video tutorials he's building now. You'll get a lot more out of this if you're able to watch those videos and also read through the written tutorial on the CQC site. I know that Elk put up 2 long videos on the cocoontech site, but they're pretty long, and I haven't watched them myself, so that could be overkill at this time.

"Intro"
- CQC Overview (30 mins)
- ElkRP Overview (5ish mins)

"Theory of CQC"
- CQC Interface Building (strictly front-end type stuff)
- CQC Event Engine (scheduled events like HVAC, triggered events like IR receipt and security system armed/disarmed)
- CQC State Engine (Hide or disable GUI widgets based on some set of rules. For example, don't show the disarm button on your security screen if the system is in disarm mode)
- CQC Media Repository Engine (aka CDs and DVDs)
- Building Drivers inside CQC

"Theory of Elk"
- Setting up an Elk
- Setting up Automation rules inside the Elk

"Applied Theory"
- Getting the Elk and CQC to work together to accomplish something
- Media Mgmt from within CQC
- HA from within CQC
- etc.

FYI - we've had 12-14 folks already ping me on this, so it should be quite a party . If the regulars want to show up, they're certainly more than welcome.

Again, PM me for the access info.

Ok, we are so full it's not funny. I had something like 10 more requests today, but we've only got space for 25.

If my work life doesn't suck, i'll see if I can do another one next weekend.

BTW, i'll be starting off spending 10-15 mins with section 1 of this document. Those of you who can't be on this call can read through that. the quality of the PDF is pretty crappy, it's my first attempt at doing one and I used a free PDFWriter. It'll get better over time. The only thing you'll miss is the live demo, plus the walkthrough of my screens. Dean's video tutorials really will help blunt the impact of that, though.

I can't make it, will this session be recorded so folks can watch it later? I think webex has the ability to capture a session?

well, technically it's gotomeeting.com, and yes it can record. I'll see if I can figure out how to do that.

Thanks to all who attended, how would you suggest changing things to make this a better use of your time or an effective presentation?

I.E.,
Too long? Too short?
was the content too much? Too little?
Was the content too high level? Too detailed?
was my speed too fast? too slow? (of course, once the coffee kicked in for us left-coasters)
did my pace match the speed of the connection?
Not detailed enough about CQC? Too much about CQC, not enough about all the pieces/parts needed to do a full HA/HomeTheaterAutomation system?

Thanks. Hopefully you will come back and join us in one of our future CQC monthly webex sessions.

Is the recording of the session available yet?

I totally phased on recording it, as we had some large telephone issues in the beginning. If there's anyone with an 8:30PM PST availability for a redux this week, i'll schedule a meeting and record that.

Sorry about that.
