Com port redirecter help
#1
ok, so I have been using the Lantronix redirector thingy quite successfully for quite a few years now... but all of a sudden now I am having all sorts of issues with... it wont load, wont work, wont redirect, etc...
it is just generally very unhappy:-( ...

the non-workieness appears to coincide with me upgrading the OS on my server to Win7 64 Pro...

does anyone have the Lantronix redirector working on win7 64bit? what other options are there for Win7 to use the COM ports on a GC-100?
does CQC have that built in yet?

isn't it just as simple as Telnet 192.168.1.70:4999 or is there more to it?

ok, so I found a decent com port redirector thingy that works with Win7 64Bit (and 32bit)
http://www.eterlogic.com/Products.VSPE.html

but it seems to have a bit of an issue... if I make it a service using nssm.exe like they recommend, it can't actually start the serial ports if the CQC service is running...

bit of a minor drawback really, since CQC is the whole reason I need com port redirection in the first place...

its not a horrible issue really, as all I have to do is stop CQC, restart the VSPE_service, once VSPE is up and happy then restart CQC and everyone is happy...

kind of makes reboots a bit of an issue though... anyway to automate this somehow?

Make the CQC Application Shell service dependent on the redirector service. CQC won't start until the redirector is up and running.

YOu could set the CQC app shell to delayed automatic start, which should make it come up after any other non-delayed start services are up.

I tried the delayed start for CQC, but it still came up too fast...

how do you make it dependent?

I think that only the installer for the service can do that. Well, you can probably do some registry hacking to change that, but I've not do that myself, and it would likely get overwritten next time you do an install.
