I really think the discontinuation/pause/whatever you want to call it on the Sage solution for rendering media from a server really puts some impetus back on this forum. I'm badly stuck for something that will render media from a hard drive and that CQC can control.

One option out there is the Dune player, but so far no one I don't think has really tried it. Some of us are using the NeoTV 550 thingie, but it has its limitations (no playing from attached drive so you have to rip even just for a one shot watch, and the controllability leaves a lot to be desired.)

Don't know if anyone cares but the dune player works great!

If some of you want to pitch in and get me one I can keep around for long term testing, I'll do a driver for it. The player would be payment for the driver basically. I'll set it up in my own wee setup so it'll remain well tested.

I am excited to see what happens with Ceton's new Echo extender and Q media center box. I believe that they have said on avs forum that they plan on having an IP based control protocol.

So, someone has offered perhaps to buy me a Dune player to create a driver for. Just to get some clarification, which model should we be looking at here. Hopefully it'd be one that does both streaming and has a local drive, since I think that's important, and of course has the control protocol, and that is known to be solid.

The hd max, hd duo or smart H1 will work. Actually with the smart series you can add a hard drive unit or a blu ray drive to it later if needed.
