The same problem would happen. If something has the directory as it's current directory, or files open within it, you can delete or rename it. The resulting new system has to be in the same directory as the original, else any short cuts would get invalidated, not to mention stored paths. So, in order to insure that old stuff doesn't accumulate and the old one is completely untouched, I want to store away the old one, and build up a new one, and only copy over what is known to need to be copied. So, the way I'm doing it seems to me to be correct. The fact that some other obnoxious program is interfering shouldn't make me not do what is the safest upgrade scheme.
