Floor plans in templates
#11
Hey Dean,

What program did you use to do the floor plan on the images that come up on CQC's main page? It looks pretty slick.

None of those are mine, those are from various user systems.

I use it in my business so it is tax deductible Wink

Seriously, tho, you can get AutoCadLT for around $500. It doesn't have some of the scripting and 3D rendering, but for what I use it for (electrical schematics), it does perfect and is universally accepted in my line of work.

There are also some home design CAD packages for << $500 but are more restricted in what you can do and how you can add it, but might be good enough. We used one early in the house design process and gave the result to the architect to make "work".

The architect gave us a copy of the final plans in pdf and I captured just the area of interest as a jpg and will need to put in paint or some other such program to erase the extraneous info and clean it up.

robertmee,

What process did you use to get it from autocad to CQC? It seems your backgrounds are razor sharp unlikely some of the others.

We have autocad at work as well (2008 and 2010) and although it's been a few years since i used it significantly i can still work it.

I should actually asl the builder for the autocad of my home, I know he has them.

Autocad can export the dwg files as wmf (windows media files). Then I just used something like paint to convert the wmf to bmp.

When doing a floor plan in Visio how do you remove the background so just the lines appear. I exported it to a .png file but have it pure white as abackground right now and it really doesnt look good.

Since Tedp left you hanging here is how you do it:

Do a Save As from the File menu. Select the PNG format. Press the Save button. When prompted select your background color as the Tranparancey color (check box and pull down), press OK and you are good to go.

Note you may want to set your background color to something like lavendar first just to make sure you get what you want in terms of filled objects.
