Elk driver error msg

Just got my Elk M1 Gold hooked up and connected to the computer via a serial cable. Added the Elk Serial driver in CQC but I am getting an error msg in the log file.

I don't understand why it can not open the COM1 port. Used the ElkRP software and it connects just fine. Have even rebooted the computer and nothing. Any suggestions? Using CQC ver 2.4.11

Does this have to do with CQC trying to connect to my Insteon through the same port? I have my PLM via serial to COM1 for Insteon. As I only have 1 COM port right now, have card coming to extend that, I unplugged the Insteon and plugged in the Elk. When I plugged Insteon back in it was not working either. Deleted the Elk driver and rebooted and then fine.
Is this causing the problem? Or can I do this? Wish there was a pause for drivers, only option right now is to delete.

You definitely can't have two drivers trying to use the same serial port. Even if the target device isn't there, the driver will still have the port open and trying to talk to the device in case it shows up.

So how can I disable the Insteon driver so I can work on the Elk? This is just until my serial card comes.

You cannot disable a driver, only remove it.

Is that on the wish list anywhere?

To be able to disable a driver and release a comm port without removing the driver. Sure would help when doing testing for new drivers and / components.

Yeh, it's on the list for 2.5, though with all the side journeys we are having to take to meet immediate needs, and the subsequent time it then takes to get any complex bits done in dribs and drabs, I'm wondering if there will be enough time for it. Hopefully so.
