Lantronix serial port thingy reliability
#11
AnthonyZ Wrote:The device (Lantronix) itself is rock solid. I've been using Lantronix on jobs for years and in my own home for 2.5 years without a single lock up. Ever. I've also used SENA hello devices as well with ZERO issues. Now, in all fairness, they've been controlled via a system other than CQC but my point is that the Lantronix servers themselves are VERY, VERY stable.

Which brings up an interesting clarification: I do *not* use Lantronix hardware, it's some other brand. I just use the Lantronix software.

That could be the issue.

I use the Digi Etherlite hardware with their realport software. I tried to use Lantronix, but couldn't figure out how to use it. The Realport software and the Digi works great - very easy to set up.

yes, that is true, mostly, all it would really take for me to move my vote from "Mostly Flawless" to "Flawless" would be if CQC would just let go of the com port when it lost connection for a second, and then remake the connection... as currently I think that is all I really am doing when I cycle CQC to get the connection to come back...
of course, it could just be all CQC's fault, ie once it loses a connection it no longer can get that connection back, even if that device is sitting out there waving to CQC yelling "here I am!!!"
I just don't know...

technically, neither am I, since the Global Cache people are too cheap to create their own solution and instead just sponge off Lantronix...

Very happy with the lantronix redirector software. I still use the old 3.xx as opposed to the new 4.xx version.
I have a Stallion 16 port Easy Server II which handles serial connections from a few computers to alarm panels/C-Bus interface/Modem/Router Console port etc.

Never really had issues with the software only my very old stallion server P/S dying. Thankfully I found another to buy on ebay within the week.
Talk about good Karma.

Never had the 3.xx version of the software lockup on me etc.

Cheers
Jason.

since this thread somehow got resurrected, I would just like to say, I haven't had to touch the lantronix serial port thingy software in over a year... maybe 2 years, I have lost track... so I am changing my vote to flawless...
