If you can get to the duct work (especially if they are the round flexible ones), then installing the zone dampers is pretty easy. The hardest part is making sure you size the by-pass damper accodingly and hooking it up since it has to go between the inlet and out let of the air handler.
It doesn't hurt to call a HVAC person and have them quote it... though, some of them may look at you a bit confused (meaning they have not hooked up a multi-zone single system home before)... stay away from them.
