That's how the Betwin software works. That was my plan but its strill down on the list.

I think that Betwin is probably a much lighter weight solution than VMWare, but I could be wrong about that.

How are these so cheap? I'm veeb pricing baluns to send VGA over cat5, and they are crazy expensive. I was saving to get a VGA and a USB, and expecting to pay $400 between the two minimum.

I think you are looking in the wrong places Wink

Here is a VGA + usb extender which sells new for $70. I've bought from this individual a couple of times and would recommend both him and the products he sells.

If you are looking at VGA and serial, I would look at the Cypex longviews which you can get for around $100 off e-bay (although they will be used for that price).

This is fantastic. Originally I was going to save for something on this level, coupled with the usb balun on the same page. Total solution would have well exceeded $500 for exactly what the posted one above does. Is it a huge rip off, or does it do something that the one you posted doesn't?

Thanks,

I notice right away that the cheaper unit does not have the distance capacity of the more expensive unit. So there is probably a quality difference in parts. But if you are not needing to send the signal out more than 150ft, I think the cheaper unit is probably fine.

I have not used the VGA extender from this seller, but I have used a couple USB only extenders (which sell for even less). I have been very pleased with the quality. The cases are metal and overall seem to be good quality. I like them more than the USB extenders I got from Cyberguys which were more expensive and plastic. Those Cyperguy extenders also got fried - I'm not saying it wasn't my fault, but the units from Mr. Chen the e-bay seller are still functioning fine.

Also, I am not sure if he will recommend using a power supply or not. The auction does not include one. When I bought my 1 port USB extender it wasn't needed. But I just bought a 4 port USB extender and he recommended that I use it so that if I was using USB powered devices, it would pull from the PS. It was an extra $6 so I bought it.

I see on the specs for the KVM extender, they do list a power supply. I would e-mail him and ask him if it is required or not. But still the total cost will be well below what you had considered before.

sic0048, are you Mr. Chen? ;-) He has gotten a sale from your recommendation. I will probably have 3 of these by the end of the year. Does he sell anything for component?

Dumb question - are using the USB part of the extender for the touchscreen or do you have a separate extender for that?

Thanks

My touchscreen has a serial connection, so I use a Cybex Longview extender for both VGA and serial connections. I use the USB extender so that I can use a wireless keyboard at the screen.

I've wanted more USB connections at the screen so that I could easily download pictures from my digital camera, etc. That is why I bought the 4 port version for my parents house (they want a system like mine).

And no, I don't have any connections to the seller, other than being a satisfied customer. Wink
