ok, this driver seems to work perfectly except for the request system status command. that seems to have changed quite a bit with new disk types, audio formats and such plus an extra byte in the message.
one other thing i have never been able to figure out is how to set the time mode. i see where it comes back in the system status message but i never have found a way to change it to remaining time for example.

Oops - I did the disc types but not the audio format & channels; Here is a V0.2 driver that does those. I do see that the type of time info is specified, but I don't see in the protocol how to specify which is to be reported.
what i see with this driver is that the elapsed time is still the same. it shows 17:00:02 when i am 2 minutes into the movie. as i advance the tracks it goes to 27:xx.xx then 37:xx:xx. i don't get seconds. it also shows chapter is 100 and title is 0 regardless. finally i see audio channel is "Unknown" and time mode is blank. i suspect it is because of the additional digits in the spce (100 digits for title number and 1000 digits for the chapter number). audio format looks correct.

time code all looks great. the only suspicious thing i see is the audio says unknown. is the player really sending a 36h for audio format with the disk that is in the player (superman returns)?
Sorry about the two botched attempts; I'll bundle the driver and send it to Dean, but it will have to be in an early 2.5 beta (or 2.4 patch) as 2.4.0 is bundled up...
The early particulars on the new Denon (no word on RS-232, HDMI only as output, name is Denon DVD-1800BD, Profile 1.1, MSRP$750, available in October)

I looked at the player during CEDIA -- No serial connector, so still nothing less expensive than the 2500.
I also looked at many of the other new players and did not find serial (or IP) control.
