Norton Partition Magic 8.0 free (AR)
#1
Partition magic free after rebates at buy.com. Anyone use and/or recommend this product? I mean, it's free after all, but rebates are a hassle. I can't think of the last time I needed to move my partitions around, though.

Since it's the version that won't run on a disk with any Server OS installed, personally, I don't see what it does that DiskPart (the command line tool) or Disk Management can't, except resize partitions without needing to back-up/restore data -- personally, the only time I need to do that is on servers Smile

I stay clear of Norton.... after their Antivirus security package hosed my PC.

I've used PM for years, long before it was part of Norton. It's not something you'll use everyday, but the very few times I've needed it, it's come in handy. Free is Free, so I'd grab it.

I stopped being willing to pay for PM when they wanted several hundred more to run on a disk that had any Server OS's installed.

Assuming shipping is also free (which it rarely is), I find "mail in rebates" only actually result in me getting my rebate about half the time, and even then, my time to go through all the hoops of getting it, copying and mailing in things for the rebate, tracking it, and going to the bank with the cheque are all worth something, too.

Heh...well, that's why I was asking around to see if the hassle would be worth it. I've had good luck getting rebates back...better luck, in fact, than I've had remembering to get them out in time....

And ya, shipping is free. So all you'll end up spending is postage on 2 rebates.

Actually, they have Norton Ghost for free after rebates also. However, I just noticed....both of these products have a competitive/upgrade rebate. However, it LOOKS like you can actually use Norton PM 8.0 as the product to rebate for the Norton Ghost....so you'd essentially get both utilities for $20, unless you also had whatever software is required for the upgrade on PM 8.0. still a deal, I guess.

I will say that I hate Norton Ghost. Unless it's changed considerably, I despise the whole boot disk process to get an image. I use Acronis True Image instead.
