Cbus question (scenes)
#1
Rohan, or others...

I want to be able to toggle a scene on my Saturn DLT keypads... on cbus forums this is possible if you store the scene on a C-Touch or PAC

can i use the cbus driver in CQC for this ?

Also is there a way to dim the scene ?

many thanks, Will

Yes and no

If you have a PAC etc then it should be possibile as long as you put the right code in the PAC. You need to be able to trigger a scene from a lighting application group.

If you dont have a PAC then no. The C-Bus driver for CQC works on one application only (typically the lighting application). Scene triggering is done on a different application (trigger control - 202) so it cant be done

BUT

If you want to install a second PCI and load a second instance of the driver with it tied to the scene trigger apoplication then it should work OK.

This is one of the main drawbacks of the driver. This is not Rohans fault, but rather the limited functionality that exists in the public release protocol documents. If (and hopefully when) we can get a driver (encrypted) that is fully compliant then I would suspect that scene triggering would be possible (and many other things as well such as the MRA stuff and the new thermostats).

As for dimming the scene - have a look at the C-Bus forums and search for scene modify for more info. On a Key input a scene modifyer will modify (ie ramp up or down) the last scene executed on that key input (my understanding anyway). At the moment you would not be able to do this with the c-bus driver for CQC.

many thanks... so are there people pushing for a better driver from clipsal ?

The problem is not with Clipsal, the full interface protocol will do all you want.

The problem is I can only use a small subset of it that was released as the "Public Release Protocol".

This is because the full protocol is only released under a NDA and as you know all the CQC drivers are able to be viewed (and therefore reverse engineered) by anybody.

So if your looking for somebody to lobby, Dean is your man :-)

How many C-bus users do we have Rohan?

Do you keep track of them at all?

I really don't know.

I've sent the driver out to lots of people, but often I never hear from them again. I like to think it's because it is all working so well, there is no need to ask questions :-)

Perhaps we should do a survey.

yeah - I was thinking that if there were enough users it might justify more pressure on Dean to come up with a solution to enable a comprehensive driver.

Now that the C-bus product is available in the US it would make (IMO) sense for Dean to jump on board the bandwagon and be an integrated partner (or whatever they are calling it now) and get the CQC logo out there with it. CQC might get recognised as a versatile BMS considereing that it can intergrate with almost anything.

It dosen't need to be that hard.

All that needs to happen is to be able to write a directive in the driver that prevents it from being opened in the driver IDE.

I have already spoken to Clipsal and Dean about this approach, and everyone is happy. It just has to happen.

Yeah but its the last bit that appears to be the hardest - if it was easy it would be done by now.

I would love to have a fully implemented driver for CQC. I dont know if there is anything out there that is integrated to the full protocol yet other than homegate and scehdule plus. AMX/Crestron appear to be done by end users like you Rohan and they are only using the PRP (going by the posts on the Clisap forums).

Well,

Its getting close to time to count me in. I had the pleasure of powering up my CBUS system the first time this week, and so far so good.

The installation has 8 - 8 Channel 1Amp Dimmers, 1 - 4 Channel 2Amp Dimmer, A PCI and a PAC. I have begun installing the key pads, and hope to look into CQC work in the next 4-6 weeks.
