The Wii has now got media center capabilities as well.

No idea how good it is, just read the headline.

I think the 360 has more chance of becoming a media center (its partially there now), but it does not have an integrated HD DVD - only the add-on HD DVD, where as the PS3 has blueray.

Will this one do 1080P? Will it have the HDMI or will I need to use the VGA?

It will do 1080P over both VGA and Component - but will not do it for HDMI. Component 1080P is so hit and miss though with each TV, that I would almost put it in the does not work category. I will say that if you are watching or playing this on anything less than a 50" inch TV, 1080P is much more of a gimmick that you will never see. If you are using a projector, and it has a VGA cable then you are set. What type of equipment will you be watching it with?

And do you have a VGA port that is not in use on this projector? I know that if you go with the Elite - you do get HDMI, but that is really about it. Considering that you will have to send the audio out seperately anyways, personally, I would just buy the package you have linked above.

I currently have the 360 with the HD DVD add on, and the picture quality is stunning on my 720P Panasonic projector. You will be fine with the VGA connection, unless of course, they implement the AACS copy protection. But considering that may happen 5 years down the road when players will be 150 bucks a piece, I wouldn't prevent myself from grabbing one at this point.

I can reroute my PC to component and use the VGA input or I can use the Component out and run it through the AP (I think it is 200mhz... def is the HD version but not sure if it goes higher).

I won't pretend I know what the losses could be by doing that, but I would assume that you want the HD DVD player running directly to the source. So that would mean reroute your pc to component(exactly what I did), and use the VGA port for the 360. Again if this all ends up being too much hassle, the elite does offer HDMI.

Are you sold on HD DVD or are you just looking for a game system with a little extra?

I had a PS3 but it died after 4 days... I would just like to be able to play HD DVDs and maybe games on the side. I have about 300 DVD slots left in my 3rd changer so I can wait but i would like to start getting some HD DVDs and my Sony Changer won't take Blue Ray DVDs... The HDDVD combos look like the best idea for me to start buying.

Gotcha - well if you are more concerned with movies, HD DVD has much better standalone player options then the addon. Especially with the projector you mention, I am going to assume you have some kind of theater. The biggest downside to the addon is the fact it cannot output 5.1 analog audio or pcm streams via hdmi. On a pure movie watching basis, I would really aim for a A2 or A20. If you like the fact that the 360 can connect with Windows media center, then for surely go with the 360. I love my 360, and only play the odd game here or there. But Microsoft continues to add more and more online features that really make it quite the system, and the best part of it all is, its very simple to use.
