xpunlimited RDP software
#1
For anyone who needs more than 3 users, and is planning on upgrading to the full version (like me) - Do it now !!

They're about to double the price for unlimited users from 1st July.

What does xpUnlimited provide that the WindowsXP Beta hack doesn't (other than more the three users)?

I have no experience with either but I'm currently looking for some solution that can do this hence a little research on my part.

I did come across this white paper that might help explain it. What I'd like to test is the ability to do some load sharing by using a couple XP machines as servers (non-CQC related stuff).

Probably nothing - the XP hack seemed a bit difficult to get going and get right, but once installed is fine.

unlimited is supported, and if anything in future XP updates breaks the hack, unlimited will carry on working.

Initially CQC used to through up a listening error when using the hack and multiple IV's in different sessions, i tried xpunlimited but it did not cure. Though the error seems to have gone away with progressive updates to CQC, and unlimited stayed for me.

And as i now need 4 (3 + Console), unlimited fits nicely, and its not a busting amount of money at the moment.

Thanks for the info Dean...So far, the hack seems to be working for me...But I'm only using two users. Me when I login to do work and the Nokia 770, so I guess I'm not taxing it. I have a separate PC that drives my other touchscreens.

Actually they are moving to a tiered pricing structure in the future. Instead of offering unlimited licenses, you will pay for the number you need. Obviously if you can buy now, you have a much better deal, but waiting may not cost you as much as you think.

The old pricing is as follows:
XP Unlimited v1.8 license - € 105
XP Unlimited - Enterprise v2.2 license - € 455

There new pricing is as follows:
Starting from 1 july 2007 we will sell the following versions of XPUnlimited:

XPU Classic - 5 users € 112,--
XPU Classic -10 users € 145,--
XPU Classic - Unlimited users € 235,--
XPU Enterprise - Unlimited users € 455,--

Other systems used:
SageTV w/ cablecard tuner & multiple extenders for viewing
BlueIris and IP cameras for CCTV
Incredible PBX for home phone

Just wanted to pass this along - apparently upgrading to XP Service Pack 3 will cause the XP Unlimited 1.8 version to quit working due to a modified termsrv.dll file.

I was able to get it back going by just reinstalling the install program over the current one and all is back to normal.

Funny I just went through this myself. It also seems like the "demo" version of XPunlimited has a time limit now. So it really isn't a viable option unless you already have the "old demo"

I reinstalled my OS this weekend (actually went from Windows Media Center 2005 to XP Pro SP3) and decided to use the "hack" that is out there rather than XPUnlimited. You basically replace the original termsrv.dll with a new one to get 3 concurrent RDP sessions.

If you are trying this with SP3, there is a new termsrv.dll that you have to use. The old versions don't work anymore under SP3, but there are plenty of web sites that have the new directions on how to make the modification. Just google it.
