Hopefully not such a stupid question...
As the XL1B driver seems to be fading, i'm desperate to get a DVD changer of some kind - i see a few 777's for sale on Ebay - all US based of course, and most dont seem interested in sending to the UK.
What im thinking of is paying someone in the US, so they can purchase a 777 on my behalf, and then send it on to me - probably as a 'gift' to save me the massive import tax.
If anyone is willing, or see's obvious flaws in my plan (other than the fact they can run off with my money) any comments appreciated.
Thanks
Dean.

I think you will need a transformer as the USA ones I think are for 60hz only

And aren't the US ones NTSC only, not PAL?

The 777ES players clearly show them as being NTSC only from the US. Also, they are 120v 60Hz only too according to my manual.

A friend of mine imported one to Australia and then had it modified here, it didn't cost much because apparently the relevant bits are the same as some other model. Perhaps the same service is available in the UK?
You would know him from the C-Bus forum, CharlieCrackle, try sending him a PM and see what details he can give you.

Thanks for the replys
I've got the 120v covered as i use a step down transformer at the moment for my XL1B.
The NTSC thing is interesting.. there is a company selling 777's in the UK for $1350.00 that are region free and PAL & NTSC progressive scan.
So i assume a conversion is possible.
Thanks for the headsup Rohan on CharlieCrackle - i shall PM.

Dean,
When i was in LA in November, I purchased a Modified 777 so that it would playback multizone, The PAL/NTSC side you should be convered for in your TV side, i assume you have the ability already to play zone 1 dvds on some modifed player like a simply hacked philips boxes.
Any 110v stepdown will work fine - your import plan will work pretty fine. I just recived my 4 Xantec Amps, and Avatrix system on Thursday, and marked the packages as 'Testing Only - No Commercial Value - Not for resale', since technically this is true, and the import people are happy enought with this declaration.
cheers

Dean,
If you get your research done and definitely want to buy one, I certainly don't mind you having it shipped to my address and then I will forward it on to you.
With all these posts, I'm not sure anyone actually volunteered to help out!

Cheers Brian - i have had one other offer - though i'm currently trying to work out the best way to do it.
It looks like the chip/mod to make it region free, and PAL is about $200.00, so the Ebay ones dont look quite such good value. I'm still investigation, and may come back if i make progress.
Thanks
Dean.
