There are a couple of half-y's for sale for ~120 bucks. They are 8x4 composite, analog audio. Anyone know if these could handle component video?
If not I'm guessing 3 of them could handle the video part.

3 might handle component but i don't know about HD.

I think what he was trying to convey is that those particular autopatches probably do not have the bandwidth to pass HD quality signals. You could send a lower resolution over component and those switchers probably could handle it.
Obviously component cables have the ability to pass HD signals - even 1080p. But the switchers must have the bandwidth to handle that type of signal too. Some switches have the higher bandwidth and some do not. It is very important to do your due diligence to make sure the switch you buy matches your expectation.

My wife would *kill kill kill* me if I did that...my current 4YDM is sitting completely neglected downstairs...but at least it's in my rack now!!
Ron, I can't tell from the description, but from the photos...does it even have any actual I/O cards in it? I don't see any connections in the back. Or are those easy to acquire?

I think it is a basic unit, which would be good for spare parts I would think. The front cover is $400 and the power supply is around $800 as I recall... not sure what else is in there, but if I still had the 4ydm I would get this for sure.
