Sorry for thinking out loud on the forum. I am just continuing to work through my issue and hoping someone can help me with the final piece of the puzzle.

First off, the issue was definitely a security issue between Vista and the NAS server. Even using the UNC for the NAS server, the systems security would not allow me to even view the files without logging in as a guest. Since I don't think there is any way to have CQC perform a login, I decided to allow the CQC shell to run under a local account on the machine. This account then in turn logs into the NAS server.

That provided access to the files on the NAS server, but it still does not allow me to view files based on the path of the mapped drive. J. River is still outputting the path using the mapped drive letter because it is running under my personal account where the drive is mapped. If I manually modify the path in the XML to use the UNC name for the server instead of the drive letter it works as expected.

All I need to do now is figure out how to have J River output the path using the UNC name instead of the mapped drive letter. I could do a find and replace in the XML file, but that is one extra step I would like to avoid if possible.

I forget how it's done, but there's a command to change the base path of all of the files from one thing to another. There are threads about here, but I'm not sure exactly what keywords would work best, and you'd probably get a lot of non-interesting ones.

When you add the location of your media files for the library, J-river will give you a text box as well as the typical directory tree. If you use the directory tree, it will use the drive letter. Just type the UNC path directly into the text box and it should work. This works on my system, but I'm on windowsXP and using a PC for a file server so I can' say for sure.

That did the trick. Thank you very much. That seems to be the final piece of the puzzle (for now ;-) ).

Now that I have done some basic lighting, music, HVAC and weather on a single machine I think it is time to work on distributing it across the network and improving my interfaces.
