CQC Version 2.0.14 Released
Charmed Quark Systems, Ltd is proud to announce the 2.0.14 release of CQC (the Charmed Quark Controller), its software-based control and automation system.

CQC provides robust, flexible, and cost effective control of lighting, HVAC, security, home theater, media data, and other systems. It is available in various configurations, which will scale to meet your needs, whether large or small, open or secure, a single room or the whole home. Build your own hardware, or use a pre-built system. Do it yourself or pair up with one of our integration partners, whatever fits your needs and budget.

What's New

Version 2.0.14 is a refresh release that includes a fairly large number of small fixes and features that didn't make it into the 2.0 release, or that were found after 2.0 was formally released. It has no major new features, but there are some useful improvements along with the many fixes.

* Though no individual features or fixes are major, the cummulative effect is substantial. So it is highly recommended that existing customers upgrade to 2.0.14.

The notable changes are:
  • Jukebox Mode. The media architecture now supports 'jukebox' type functionality, meaning that you no longer are limited to just playing a particular collection (disc) at a time. You can queue up individual tracks to the players that support it, and there is now the ability to preview tracks before playback in order to support this new feature.
  • Auto-Blanking. The Interface Viewer now supports auto-blanking. You can set the auto-blank time or disable it. It invokes the 'blank and blanker' feature which turns off the display backlight and invokes the CQC blanker window.
  • Time/Date Widget. The Interface Viewer now has two new widgets, both of which display time/date information in a very flexible way. These supplement the existing digital clock widget, but provide a lot more flexibility for formatting the information. One displays the local system time and the other a value from a time based driver field.
  • New/Improved Drivers. There are a number of driver updates in this release including Zoom Player, TheaterTek, Jandy Aqualink, iScan VP30, AE900, Insteon, and Slim Server. The Neothings Avalon driver has been replaced with a new driver that supports both the Avalon and the Borrego models, in their various configurations. The Lutron RadioRA driver has been updated to support bridged systems. And the Proliphix thermostat driver has been updated to support the authentication required by newer models.
Product Features

CQC is a powerful, networked automation system which provides a broad set of features on which you can build the automation solution you want. It provides 'one stop shopping', so you don't need to combine multiple front and back end products yourself (with all the extra expense and complexity that involves) in order to get a full automation solution. CQC provides the following broad features:
  • Fully networked architecture, which allows you to run CQC on standard computers, wireless tablets, or handheld devices in your home network. You can control your home or home theater, or administer CQC, from anywhere
  • Strong security, so you the system administrator can control who can access what
  • Powerful and flexible and graphical front end which allows you to build the interfaces you want using our Interface Designer.
  • Support for over 125 devices from core automation products (lighting automation panels, thermostats, IR, etc...) to a broad range of A/V components.
  • Weather data so that you can see current conditions and forecast data in your area at any time.
  • Built in, zero configuration, fully CQC integrated web server which allows you to access your CQC system in a secure way from the road.
  • Scheduled and triggered events allow you to have CQC perform actions at regular intervals or in response to changes in the state of devices under CQC's control.
  • Rip your CDs and browse your CDs and DVDs by cover art with full metadata support, kick off the playing of the title you select, and control the player, all from the CQC interface.
  • Access your CQC system from .Net enabled devices via our .Net Interface Viewer.
  • Embed web browser windows in your CQC user interfaces, to integrate any web based content you want into your system.
  • Built in virtual machine based, object oriented macro language which allows you to write complex automation logic or your own device drivers, with graphical IDE.
  • Control applications as though they are devices, so that you can integrate them into your automation solution.
Give it a Whirl

The product is available in a 30 day unencumbered form, so you can use it to it's fullest extent during that time, in order to see if it works for you. If you decide to buy, you can just license your existing installation, so that you won't have any interruption of your work done during the trial period. To download the installer, click the Try/Buy tab of the main web site menu, or the Try It button in the upper right hand corner.

Then go to the Learn tab of the new web site, and select the Tutorial Videos link. Here you will find a set of online videos which will walk you through the process of installing, configuring, and understanding CQC, it's features and capabilities, and how you might use it.

CQC is licensed at the network level. So you only need to license the 'Master Server', and there are not extra per-client charges. And all drivers are included it the package, so there are no extra charges to add support for more devices over time.

* There are two versions of the CQC product, a DIY version and a professionally installed version. The DIY version is available for purchase on the web site, and at a very reasonable price, in an 'as is' format, with best effort support provided purely through the CQC support forum.
