Media respository problem after 2.0.6 upgrade
#1
Dean,

Under 2.0.3, I had build my media respository with my CDs. Ripped them with CQC MRM. Everything was fine. Then I used a DVDFab (I think) to rip my DVDs to my hard drive. Then I ran MRM with the DVD in the drive and added my DVDs to the respository. They were all file based, pointing to the files I had added earlier. Everything was fine. My media templates would load and I could see both the music and the movies in the CAB. I could also run the MRM and see both the music and movies entries in the respository.

This morning I upgraded everything to 2.0.6 and when I tested my media templates, the music template loaded fine and showed all the music entries. But when I ran the movies template, the template errored out saying it could not load. When I ran the MRM, I could see the music entries in the respository but when I selected movies media type, it didn't show any of my movie entries.

I think the same thing happened when I went from 2.0.0 to 2.0.3. But since I did not have very many movies loaded, I chalked it up the pilot error and just rebuilt my respository. So I don't think it is a problem with CQC but more of an access problem. But I don't know where to look next.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bryan

Did you update the service entry before to have it log in via some different account other than the default, in order to give the server access to shared directories or anything like that? If so, it would get undone by the upgrade.

What you can do is put the repository into verbose log mode and force ot to reload (using the ReloadDB field) and see what it complains about in the logs.

First question. No. I have always used default accounts.

Hate to admit it, but I don't know how to put the respository in "Verbose Logging". So could you be more specific?

Thanks.

Select the repository driver in the host admin dialog. In the lower right of the dialog there is a verbose logging level dropdown. Set it to high and close the dialog. Then force a reload. Then go back and put it back to normal. You can bring up the log monitor program to watch the logs as it reloads.

Logs:

I can see some errors in the logs. But too sure what to do next.

Please advise.

Bryan

I don't think that you upgraded all your machines perhaps. You always have to upgrade all systems following the correct sequence, as outlined in the release notes.

I thought I had. I even made a check list this time. As long as the MS is stopped last, upgraded first, is there any other order specific stuff that needs to be done. In other words, do the clients have to be upgrades in any order. Client with Media Respository next, last?

But anyway. What should I do at this point. Should I shutdown everything and reinstall? Did the errors tell you anything important?

Thanks for the help.

I would shut down and do the installation again and make sure you are in teh right order.

1. Shut down all the clients
2. Shut down the MS
3. Upgrade the MS, make sure it's happy
4. Upgrade the clients

The error indicates that you are running some out of date driver code most likely.

No, wait, that may be a legitimate goober, though I'm confused as to how no one else has seen it. Just hold off for a bit and I'm going to do another drop tonight with some more fixes and I'll take care of this also.

OK. I will reinstall. No problem.

Couple questions:

I am running some of my own drivers. But they are working fine. Could one of my drivers cause the movie entries in the respository to not appear?

The respository is on a Windows XP Pro machine. All my other machines run Windows 2000 Pro. Could that mean anything?

I do have 3 machines running the standalone viewer. Those machines don't have anything to stop, other than the viewer. Correct?
