yeh, just install the 6.0.0 version on the web site. There's no licensing on it.

Awesome. That means I misread somewhere along the way. I was thinking the latest updates required coming from a licensed install, and I'd have to wait until the open source release. Still slowly getting all the hardware and other software pieces sorted, nearly there, but it will help to go ahead and start learning cqc. Only briefly played with it previously during house construction.

You can use the simulator drivers to easily play around offline. The tutorial the videos (that use drivers) use them so that everyone can follow along exactly the same.

I'll be following the open source route. As someone in Europe, though, I didn't keep up with it as much because most of the drivers were US centric.  Good luck. I'll add to what others have said, this is a fantastically good and stable product.

I wish more in the HA community would have given CQC a try. All I ever heard on the various HA forums are complaints about CQC's "cost" and how the free systems do everything. Not really a valid argument when you consider the base cost of CQC is $199. I mean, honestly. These same people spend much more than that on hardware. They all seem to want something for nothing and I don't think I ever convinced anyone to try the generous free trial license of CQC.

I guarantee you that many of these same people will download, install, and use CQC after it is open sourced.

I agree.  I have been around all the new and shiny ones, and still have my faithful CQC chugging along in the background, keeping everything together and just NEVER falling over. I am sad for Dean that this never worked out as a viable income stream as he certainly deserves it.  I myself only upgraded my licence every 2 yrs or so, as I mainly use it for Sonos and lights as I live in a flat in Spain - so I don't have heating, or irrigation, or security cameras.  However, even though I only use a small subset, the platform is just so stable it has been worth it for me to keep it going - I have just downloaded version 6, and sent Dean a small donation, the same amount I was paying for a single upgrade.  I hope others do the same, and don't see it as a free ride.
