Abandoned Windows 10 for Windows 7
#1
After many hours of trying to get Windows 10 working with CQC and the Leviton Vizia RF software and the Leviton VRUSB-1US zwave stick (yes, you need to buy the stick but it's not explicitly obvious from the videos), I dropped back and went to Windows 7 Professional. Was able to get everything up and running in less than an hour.

Not sure what is going on there. Most everyone is using Windows 10 at this point.

You may be better off explaining what issues you had and seeing if anyone can help or allowing others to make the informed decision of which OS to use.

As Dean indicated, Win10 is being used a lot and we really need to go that way as MS will not offer patches for W7 for much longer (if it has not already stopped).

And, this post offer nothing in the way of information to anyone, except that you are frustrated.

I have a Mac Mini server that is running VMWare Fusion.

For CQC, I was running a Windows 10 virtual machine and was not able to get the Leviton Vizia RF software to recognize the Leviton zwave stick no matter what I did.

I loaded up a Windows 7 Pro virtual machine and had it working the first time I tried it.

I am not concerned with patching Windows 7 given my set up. I will give a fresh Windows 10 virtual machine another shot with the Leviton, but I am not holding my breath.

Long story short, I was trying to use a Windows 10 Pro virtual machine and could not get zwave to work properly or consistently. I purchased an Intel NUC NUC6CAYH and everything works reliably and consistently.

If you want to use this thread to document the peculiarities of the Mac Mini for CQC, or sticking with Win7, I can contribute.  I tried to get CQC to run in a Fusion VM with Win7 and 8.1 years ago.  Eventually I gave up, and resorted to running it on a Boot Camp partition of Win7, natively booted.  That's been great.  I think the Mac Mini was the original ideal platform for a CQC server, before things like the NUC came along.

My version of the Mac Mini can't run Win8.1 or Win10 as it turns out.  That's why I'm sticking with 7 for the moment.  Some day I'll decommission it, but it's trouble-free, quiet, cool, and low power.  And free, or at least fully amortized.

Thanks. I wanted others to benefit from the 50-80 hours I spent troubleshooting and tweaking to no avail.
