I understand...I only have a dozen outlets hooked up so far, and about a dozen more switches tomgo...hopefully it will continue to work for me. My only problem is my router keeps switching the IP addresses for my ISY, Yamaha, and OPPO. I need to switch them to a fixed IP.

You should be able to use DHCP reservation on your router to assign a static IP address to each device based on the MAC address of the device. You can either do that, manage the assigned IP addresses directly on the router or configure each device individually with a static IP address. I prefer DHCP reservations for ease of management.
What brand, model of router do you have?

+1 DHCP reservation on master router. static IP's will drive you fully crazy in a year or two.

I know I'm jumping in late here. I'm confused why you cannot use your VM to access your USB device. I'm doing it on my VM to access serial ports.

You can. I do it myself with no issues but some people report issues with VM accessing USB devices.
There are a couple of ways to overcome this though. use a device server (Serial to ethernet adapter) or a raspberry Pi acting as a USB host on the network.
The latter is perfect for USB devices that are not serial based (software license dongles etc). I have a Pi running here at work and it has been rock solid. Digi also make a device that does the same thing (there are others as well but I believe Digi is the main player in this field).
