So I looked around to see if I could get this their stupid mobile app on my phone. You have to install Google Play Store, which requires going through all kinds of obviously unsafe stuff. You have to turn off the option to only accept safe apps and go to some random site that is nothing but advertisements and download some random file, and provide your google log in to all kinds of stuff. It's all ridiculous and I just backed out of it.
I have Google Play Music/TV on my phone already and I went to that and signed in. But when I try to download the Sonos app it says I have no devices, please run the Google App Store.

OK, I got it via Amazon, though that was a scary process as well. No wonder the internet is a vast sea of insecurity.

Well, after updating I get the error as well. An initial test would seem to indicate that Windows thinks that the service definition file is not valid. I spun up my Windows 7 VM so I can install the Intel UPnP tools to see what it says. Of course if it says it's fine, that doesn't much matter since at this level we are dependent on the Windows UPnP stuff to read that file and create a service object. But that's going to be a while since that VM is vastly behind on updates.
But, in the meantime, I commented out all of the device properties service stuff, and the driver will connect. So it's just that one service that is the issue. We can complain to them about this and see if they will figure out what's going on and fix their service description file, but I'm not sure I'd hold my breath.
In the meantime, I can do a version without the device properties service I guess.

Thanks for looking into that Dean, what a pain huh? I've seen some people saying they want to move away from Sonos, like everything else you buy nowadays, the owner of the device has no say over what gets downloaded to it and you are forced (if you want to keep using your expensive kit) to accept more and more crap from these companies.

If there are any good choices, let me know. They do have a new API now, but it's cloud based and limited. Who wants to give up local control for yet another cloud based API?
If you want to complain as well, here's my post. Sign up and throw in your two cents that Windows compatibility is important.

So apparently you can only do device setup on the mobile app now. The desktop version doesn't support any setup functionality anymore.

I am running v9.1  on my ZP90 and not having any issues. I hopefully will not get an update forced upon me.

Unless you somehow prevent it from connecting to their servers, I think it will happen.

There is an option in the settings that prevents it from checking for system updates, and I unchecked that, so maybe that will keep it from happening.
On the Windows version:  Manage -> Settings -> Advanced, and then uncheck the Check for System Updates box.
