MS Speech Platform configuration on Windows Server 2012
#1
I am testing upgrading CQC to run on Windows 2012 Server and am having issues getting the MS Speech Platform configured (through the control panel) on the desktop of the Server.  Both 32 Bit & 64 Bit install without any issue, but I am unable to configure the Speech to Text (greyed out) in the control panel on the desktop of the server.

I have searched for this on the internet and am finding several other users having the same issue.  I was wondering if anyone has found a solution for this issue.

Currently, we run our clients by using RDC into the server instead of actually running CQC directly on the server.  We do this using both iPads and computers for the most part, and for us -- this makes the most sense.  Therefore, I would like to get the Speech to Text running on the server if at all possible

Has anyone got any experience with this?

Are there maybe some underlying components that don't get installed on the server platform by default that are required by text to speech?

BTW, we have our new WebRIVA client that we are working on for the next drop. It's already very functional. So you might be able to get away from RDP on the non-Windows machines. Though it doesn't currently support text to speech. I'll have to see if that's doable from Javascript. If so, then it could be supported.

On any Windows machines of course use the regular IV. You can install it in a standalone configuration so that it doesn't load a lot of other stuff. Just the client service will be loaded and it is very lightweight.

I will do some testing to see if there are underlying components that don't get to installed.  That seems very possible, since it seems like it is meant to run on 2003/2008 desktops but is only supported for applications on 2012.  Microsoft's documentation is not very extensive on the setup of the Speech Platform (code samples seem good, but very little configuration info).

I am drafting an email for you asking a few other questions, but basically I am wondering if there is any devices or methods to transmit CQC voice commands to/from the CQC server via iPads, iPhones, or other hardware devices such as ECHO (want CQC Voice as opposed to the ECHO support)

There's no way to use CQC Voice via portable devices currently. That would probably be quite an undertaking, but I'll put it on the list. Currently it needs to be via some sort of device that shows up as an audio input in Windows. Of course if you can find something that lets you connect to a Windows machine and talk and have that show up via a Windows audio input (real or faux) then that could work.

But you'd still have an issue with getting the responses back. That's currently done via TTS in the CQC Voice tray app. It would probably be another huge undertaking to try to get that sent to portable devices.
