What is being used for TV Serial control
#11
That's definite a big advantage of the GC-100 having the light sensors, so you can sense power off/on state and keep in sync even if you have to do IR control.

The Samsung tv's I have are older and have an EX-Link port on the back which is basically a 3.5mm jack. There is a 3.5mm cable to RS232 and it can accept hex commands. The logistics of this in CQC im not sure of, but if it cant do it, I bet it could be put together somewhat easily. Knowing my luck, by the time i get around to doing it, the TV will die, and I will get something new and shiny and it will have an entirely different way of communicating.
..
Hopefully the GC-100 wont fail me. Sounds like I might have made a good decision as far as flexibility goes... at least for now.

I have an older Samsung as well, and it is a one way control via an RS-232 port.  Someone wrote a driver for my model a good while ago on here, and even though it is one way communication only, it does have discrete power off/on.  I use it often with the Echo Voice control.

The other TV's I have are LG, and although there is a serial driver, always had some issues with it, mainly going into an error state briefly and then not accepting commands, plus the newer LG models have turned off the serial port when powered off.  I ended up going to GC-100's on the two LG TV's, and while not perfect, it does work good for my needs.

did LG ever implement the protocol used on the serial port on the Ethernet side of things? Much like Sharp did.

The webos lg tvs have, from what I can tell, a very robust API. I'm not a programmer at all though so it's a lot of fumbling through docs.
